In the framework of the project FLAT – Flood and landslide assistance and training, the participants from the Rescue services from five Municipalities (Danilovgrad, Vau i Dejes, Tirana, Shkodra and Lezha) attended the advanced workshop which was held in Brindisi, Italy.
Of the 6 days of comprehensive training participants had a chance to gain multidisciplinary knowledge and understanding, from Italian experts, of the various landslide and flood phenomena, from basic to master level, and to visit sites which are directly involved in the topic of floods, landslides and coastal erosion.
The participants except theoretical part of training also went to field visits, to Pomarico, in Basilicata region where a large portion of this small village was affected by a landslide, and Ginosa (Puglia Region, Italy), where the phenomenon of landslides with different geomorphological characteristics was closely observed. They also had visits to the abandoned town of Craco (Basilicata region) where a devastating earth movement caused the demolition of almost all buildings and protective walls, and the other to Ferrandina Scalo, where the flooding had devastating effects.
Our aim is that the knowledge gained from training will serve participants in their work and will strengthen the capacities of the Rescue Services and improve protection and risk management in case of floods and landslides.
