The final workshop of the FLAT PLUS capitalization project “Improvement of flood and landslide resilience”, funded by the Programme Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro 2014-2020, was held on Thursday 27 April in Brindisi, at Palazzo Guerrieri.
The event represented the final moment of a virtuous design process that saw the active participation of the Municipality of Brindisi and the consultancy of sector experts from the academic world of the University of Bari, including Professors Domenico Capolongo and Gianfranco Scicchitano and local professionals such as the Geologist Dario Fischetto.
The results of this precious synergy have implemented the knowledge system of the territory with particular reference to the problems related to coastal erosion and have provided useful elements and information to support the governance of these processes.
Great satisfaction was expressed by the Mayor of Brindisi, Riccardo Rossi who, in his speech, underlined the importance of the project and its results, highlighting how the latter represent an important step forward in understanding the erosion phenomena which heavily affect the municipal area.
In the final part of the workshop, other interventions of a multidisciplinary nature followed, with the aim of broadening the debate on the issues of integrated management of the coastal strip. The interventions of Professors Antonio Terlizzi, Giuseppe Mastronuzzi and Vanni Maciocco provided a broader view of the problems of risk management along the coast, providing interesting food for thought.
The workshop ended with the intervention of Professor Dino Borri, Councilor for Urban Planning of the Municipality of Brindisi who highlighted the importance of concerted coastal planning as a fundamental tool for the governance of these processes.
